BOMA is lifting 3 million people out of extreme poverty by 2027

What Does BOMA Do?

BOMA’s program provides a pathway out of starvation-level poverty for those most in need. BOMA participants receive education and training in business, finance and more over approximately two years. At the same time, they receive grants to start their own business — and, later, grants to grow or diversity those businesses — and regular support from BOMA mentors. To date, BOMA has transformed the lives of more than 450,000 women, youth, and refugees in Africa, with a focus on regions heavily impacted by climate change.

Why is BOMA's Work Important?

More than 490 million people are living in starvation-level poverty in Africa alone. At BOMA, we believe this is an urgent problem — but one that can be solved. In response, we’ve refined a holistic approach that has transformed the lives of more than 450,000 women, youth, and refugees to date.

Where Does BOMA Work?

BOMA works in the remote and rural drylands of Africa, a region that is heavily afflicted by the impacts of climate change. The drylands of Africa make up more than 40% of the continent and are home to more than 425 million people, with more than 13 million people living on less than $1.90 per day. BOMA has delivered measurable change in these regions for more than 15 years. Now, BOMA is working to lift 3 million people out of extreme poverty by 2027.

How Can I Help?

BOMA is proud to have received recognition from some of the most respected organizations in the non-profit space, including a Guidestar Platinum rating for transparency and accountability. You can support BOMA’s work in myriad ways including one-time or recurring gifts, personal fundraising campaigns, donor advised funds, and more.
