Being connected with BOMA, whose mission is ending extreme poverty in the dry lands of Africa, gives me joy and passion to serve. Abudho Dokata Yara

Field Officer, Marsabit

Abudho Dokata Yara

I joined BOMA in 2018 as a Business Mentor for Galas, Marsabit. After three years, I was promoted to Field Officer, supervising mentors and expanding my role with training in community engagement and IT. Fieldwork, collaboration with local governments and NGOs, and building trust with communities are the key parts of my work. Despite challenges like harsh weather and security concerns, seeing the positive impact on participants’ lives is incredibly rewarding. One of the most rewarding aspects of the job was seeing the tangible results of my work. For instance, witnessing the positive changes on participants we work with that had access to food, health care, pay for the school fees , made all the efforts meaningful. It reinforced my belief in the power of grassroots work and its long-term impact on individuals’ lives. My time at BOMA has enhanced my project management and communication skills, which I continue to apply in my career.
