BOMA’s Overall Approach
THE CHALLENGE
BOMA’s focus is on the drylands of Africa, whose communities and ecosystems sit at the epicenter of multiple crises including accelerated climate devastation, youth unemployment, conflict and displacement, and scare economic resources and market access. Extreme poverty persists due to its multidimensional and multigenerational nature that disproportionately affects women and children.
Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP)
Addressing Extreme Poverty through the REAP Model
BOMA tackles extreme poverty through its innovative and adaptive REAP models. REAP addresses the multidimensional nature of extreme poverty through holistic, sequenced, and time-bound programming by fostering income generation, savings, and economic diversification. Each model, or product, addresses a critical aspect of extreme poverty found across the drylands of Africa.

Evidence Based Impact
BOMA’s programs are grounded in rigorous data and evidence. Through the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of initiatives like Village Savings and Loan Associations and Savings Groups, we track the tangible, long-term impacts on household income, food security, and education. This demonstrates how our approach is both effective and scalable, offering a blueprint for tackling extreme poverty across a multitude of different contexts.
