Nairobi, Kenya — 7th April—After an extensive search, the Board of Directors of BOMA is pleased to announce the appointment of Corrinne Ngurukie – Yamo as the new Chief Executive Officer of BOMA, effective 1 June 2026.

Corrinne is a development leader with more than 21 years of experience in economic inclusion, youth empowerment, and community resilience across Africa. She has worked in Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Tanzania, collaborating with governments, donors, and the private sector to design and scale programs that create lasting opportunity for vulnerable communities, particularly women and youth.

She specializes in translating strategy into action by building data-driven, community-centered programs focused on long-term impact. Her leadership approach is participatory and results-oriented, helping ensure that programs are not only effective, but also sustainable.

Prior to joining BOMA, Corrinne served as Chief Executive Officer at Generation Kenya. She has also held senior roles with FHI 360, USAID DREAMS, the American Red Cross, and Save the Children USA, including serving as Project Director for ASPIRES South Africa and Africa Regional Technical Advisor for the Youth Save Project. Earlier in her career, she worked in banking, where she built a strong foundation in financial systems that she later applied to development work focused on economic opportunity and financial inclusion.

Corrinne’s appointment as the next CEO of BOMA underscores the organization’s commitment to proximate leadership and to advancing locally led, locally owned, and locally sustained solutions.

BOMA works across Africa’s drylands to help households escape extreme poverty through economic inclusion programs that support enterprise development, savings, market access, and stronger resilience to shocks. Through its poverty graduation model, BOMA supports ultra-poor households to build sustainable incomes and strengthen their ability to withstand multiple crises. Since 2009, BOMA has impacted over 1 million women, youth, and refugees across Africa’s drylands.

Speaking on her appointment, Corrinne Ngurukie – Yamo said:

“Twenty-one years ago, I chose to build my career around a simple belief, that every person deserves a fair chance at life. That conviction hasn’t changed. What has deepened is my understanding of what it truly takes.
The women, youth, and families BOMA walks alongside are not statistics. They are mothers building businesses in harsh conditions. Children going to school because their mum finally has income. Our sisters, brothers, and children, deserving exactly what you and I would want for our own families.
I am not coming in with all the answers. I am coming in ready to listen, learn, and get my hands dirty alongside communities and colleagues who have been at this far longer than me. That is the only kind of leadership I know, and the only kind that works. That trust is not something I take lightly. It is something I will carry with great care.”

Kathleen Colson, Founder of BOMA, said:

“When I founded BOMA nearly two decades ago, I was driven by a core belief: that lasting solutions to extreme poverty must be led by the communities living them, not by outsiders. Corrinne understands that concept, and she has the vision and experience to scale it into the kind of systems change that makes locally led development real and lasting. Passing the leadership of BOMA to her isn’t just the right next step, it’s the fulfillment of what I always hoped this organization would become.”

Elsie, U.S. Board Chair, and Elizabeth, Kenya Board Chair, said:

“Corrinne stood out for her ability to lead with clarity, empathy, and deep commitment to the people at the heart of BOMA’s mission. She understands the realities of under-resourced communities, listens with intention, and leads with both conviction and humanity. We are confident that under Corrinne’s leadership, BOMA will continue working with governments, partners, and communities to expand economic inclusion and strengthen resilience across Africa’s drylands.”
